PAGING
Paging systems are utilized in two primary applications:
- Communications with personnel in locations without telephone sets. Such areas might include warehouses, common areas, outside lots, etc.
- Paging is useful for applications where it isn't appropriate to page through the telephone sets. An example would be a quiet office environment where users don't want paging through their phones but rather through hallways and common areas.
ALERTS
Alerting systems are used in several applications:
- After-hours, when the receptionist is gone for the day, an incoming activates a chime. This signals people still in the office to pick up the ringing line.
- In areas with high noise levels such as a manufacturing floor or warehouse, a loud bell might be necessary to hear the phone ring.
- Alerts can also be used to notify personnel of "call overflow" conditions. As an example, one person may be assigned to pick up calls of a certain type. If they don't answer the call in a specified number of rings, an audible or visual alert could be triggered, thus notifying other employees to pick up the phone.
