Overview: Although the on-premise PBX is eliminated, there is still critical equipment that is necessary to support a hosted PBX business telephone system. The following are the hosted PBX components required, and how Ring Central and TeleDynamic ensure that they are provided:
RingCentral: RingCentral integrates with Polycom and Cisco telephones. They will support other manufacturer’s phones, but the customer is responsible for the configuration and implementation. Provisioning SIP telephones can be quite challenging, even for someone with technical skills.
TeleDynamic: TeleDynamic sells Digium, Polycom, and Yealink phones. Teledynamic provides more phone choices than RingCentral. Additionally, the company will provide assistance in re-provisioning customer-owned telephones.
RingCentral: RingCentral does not sell Ethernet switches.
TeleDynamic: TeleDynamic represents a full range of Ethernet switches, including power over Ethernet (POE), unmanaged and managed options.
Voice-Enabled Firewalls & Routers
RingCentral: RingCentral does not sell or support firewalls for routers. They view this as a customer responsibility.
TeleDynamic: The company sells Netgear and Peplink routers and firewalls, with several models available from each manufacturer.
Multiple WAN Routers
RingCentral: RingCentral does not sell or support multiple WAN routers.
TeleDynamic: TeleDynamic specializes in multi-WAN routers and resilient data networks. The company is a certified Peplink reseller. Features include automatic circuit failover, QoS, bandwidth management and load balancing. Circuits supported include Ethernet over Copper (EoC), fiber, wireless, and ADSL. Up to four different circuits can be supported on one device. On the other hand, a larger RingCentral customer is on their own for selecting and installing a router that will support multiple Internet connections.
On-Premise PBX Option
RingCentral: RingCentral offers no on-premise PBX option. They are a one-product company, so regardless of your need, hosted is their answer.
TeleDynamic: TeleDynamic provides both hosted and premise-based PBX solutions. They deploy hybrid environments with a PBX at one location (typically the headquarters location) and hosted PBXes at other locations. Since both solutions use the same SIP technology, the phones are compatible between systems. It also makes it very easy to move from hosted to premise-based PBX or vice versa.
RingCentral: In a direct examination, it is fairly obvious that RingCentral’s offering is simply a hosted PBX. A very good hosted PBX, but only a single product.
TeleDynamic: TeleDynamic also offers a quality hosted PBX, but in addition, the full infrastructure necessary to support a hosted PBX.
Conclusion: While a hosted PBX is a pretty simple business communications solution, the data network required to support it is not as simple. RingCentral’s approach is they provide the hosted solution and the customer and their IT staff or vendor is responsible for providing the required network to make it work. TeleDynamic’s approach is that they can provide any or all of the components and the expertise needed to design a quality, reliable solution.
